The collection was inspired by the search for a scarf and takes us on a journey across India, with a bohemian wardrobe filled with geometric cuts, embellishments and hand-blocked prints in a watery, sunbaked color palette. It’s a gorgeous mixture of men’s and women’s styles with effortless aplomb: the gowns that are feminine slip and flow around the body, all garments that seem borrowed from the boys add structure but feel thrown on, as if Donna’s woman is strolling through a journey and casually draping herself with find and local fabrics as she goes, wrapped in structured pieces from her urban-bound life. Perhaps a tryst or two with a worldly adventurer along the way.

Donna Karan New York Spring 2014

Entering the Donna Karan New York presentation each season is an experience. In contrast to the vibrant, high-energy vibe from the DKNY presentation the day before, the same venue emerges the next day as a sensuous experience of refinement. Donna’s love of the serene and tactile comes to life, and everything from the seats to the sculptural backdrop seems to offer a slow embrace, beckoning those who enter within to sit, relax and be enveloped in feminine sensuality. If you’re familiar with Donna’s Urban Zen concept, her collection presentation always has those healing notes, and there’s always some beautiful artistic nod to her departed husband, Stephan Weiss.
